Message I once met a girl who was stranded in a mall parking lot. Her car wasn't starting, so I take a look and determine it's just the battery. So I go to jump her car, but the battery is worn down or just flat out covered in crap (couldn't see the + or -), so I base the polarity off the colors of the wires going to them (logically, red wire is +, black is -). I hook it up and her battery starts smoking... so I yank them off real quick. Turns out, some dumbass had put the red wire as the ground and the black wire as the positive. Did I mention it was a Geo? Anyway, no damage was caused, I put my red jumper wire to her black wired terminal and my black wire to her red wired terminal and it started just fine.

Moral of the story: just because logically red = + and black = - doesn't mean there won't be exceptions to the "logic." =P
